Bear Viewing Excursions from Anchorage

 

Redoubt Bay Bear Viewing

Your adventure begins from Lake Hood seaplane base with a scenic flight across Cook Inlet to the foothills of the Aleutian Mountains. The plane will land on the lake near the rustic, wooden Redoubt Bay Lodge, where your guide will greet your for your tour. You will travel by boat to the best locations for spotting bears. From the safety of the boat, you will be able to get close to the bears for viewing and photography. Various Alaska bird species such as the Tulc goose and Trumpeter swans are also found along this coastal area. Enjoy your tour as your guide discusses life on the last frontier, where wild animals still roam freely, sometimes just yards from the front door. Tour includes roundtrip float plane flight Anchorage to Redoubt Bay, guided bear viewing and homemade lunch. Morning and afternoon departures available.

Katmai National Park / Brooks Fall Bear Viewing

The world's most famous bear viewing site! Watch as brown bears catch salmon on Brooks Falls. Depart Anchorage aboard a wheeled plane for an approx. 1 hour and 20 minute flight to King Salmon or Kulik. On arrival in King Salmon or Kulik, a local representative will transfer you directly to a seaplane for an approx. 20 minute flight to Brooks Camp. After a short safety briefing on bears by a park ranger, you are free to enjoy the nature preserve. Viewing platforms are connected by walking trails and are strategically placed for commanding views of brown bear activity. Rangers are based at platforms and on trails to provide information, safety and to rotate viewing groups during busy periods. In the late afternoon you will return to King Salmon, where you will have time for dinner before departing for Anchorage. Tour includes roundtrip flight Anchorage to Brooks and park fees.

Please note:

Day tours to Katmai National Park are non-refundable, even if flights between King Salmon and Brooks are cancelled due to weather. However, flights between Anchorage and King Salmon/Brooks Camp are generally very reliable in any weather.

 

Lake Clark National Park / Homestead Lodge Bear Viewing

Depart from Anchorage on a one hour scenic flight across Cook Inlet to Homestead Lodge, located in the foothills of the Aleutian Range. After landing on a remote beach, you will have 6 to 7 hours of guided bear viewing. Relax in the specially designed wagon while your experienced guide drives you through the park to the best viewing locations. Watch the bears as they graze in the meadows or fish along the shore. Tour includes: roundtrip flights from Anchorage and lunch.
