The walk includes topics such as edible and medicinal plants and the life cycle and traditional uses of salmon species.  At the Cultural Center, visit with Tlingít Native Artisans and view the park’s museum exhibits. A special treat is our visit to Sheldon Jackson Museum, which houses the largest collection of artifacts from the major Native Alaskan groups.   Another highlight today is an authentic Native dance performance inside a traditional style clan house.  Dancers enter adorned in beautiful regalia to captivate you with ancient songs passed down through generations. Sitka Historic & Nature Walk

Explore Sitka on foot with a knowledgeable guide.  Stroll around the base of Castle Hill, where Alaska was purchased from Russia, through the historic district, the Prospector Statue and Russian Blockhouse.  Pass St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral and the Russian Bishop’s House en route to Sheldon Jackson College.  At Sitka National Historical Park, walking trails lined with totems poles guide you through the lush Tongass National Forest.  On the way to the Raptor Center, you’ll encounter swamp-like muskegs that are home to most of Alaska’s bird, plant and wild berry life.  At the Raptor Center, observe bald eagles, owls, hawks and other birds of prey.  At the end, elect to stay in the downtown area near the cathedral, or return to the tender pier.
