White Pass Railroad, Yukon
Suspension Bridge & Lunch at Jewell Gardens
Travel aboard the world-famous White Pass & Yukon Route railroad to the
2,885-foot White Pass summit. This iron
trail was built through some of North America’s
most rugged terrain and still operates over 100
years later. Ride aboard old-fashioned parlor
cars as you retrace the original route beyond
the summit of White Pass to Fraser, British
Columbia.
You will then
board a comfortable motorcoach for a journey up
the scenic Klondike Highway to visit the
magnificent Yukon Suspension Bridge. You
will venture out onto this walkway, 57 feet
above the churning rapid in Tutshi River. This
outdoor museum and interpretive center will
allow you to learn about the plants, animals and
geological makeup of this unique and scenic
environment. Reboard the motorcoach and
continue down the west side of the White Pass
canyon. Your driver-guide will regale you with
stories of the stampeders who trekked through
the pass in search of gold. Stop at picturesque
points including the Tormented Valley and
Pitchfork Falls. Next, arrive at the
beautiful Jewell Gardens, original site
of the Clark family farm in 1898. You will be
greeted with a lunch service on an open
sun porch consisting of a seasonal soup, salad,
quiche, and freshly baked dessert. The
ingredients for your meal come from the edible
landscape surrounding you. After the lunch
service, your guide shows off the immaculately
groomed herb, flower and vegetable gardens. On
your return to Skagway, you may choose to stop
in town or return to your ship.
